FG Orders Withdrawal of FUTO Vice-Chancellor Appointment

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a directive to withdraw the appointment of Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

Prof. Nosike, who assumed office on June 19, 2026, succeeded Prof.

Nnenna Oti and was appointed as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor. The directive, communicated in a letter dated June 25, 2026, from the Federal Ministry of Education, cites irregularities and inconsistencies with established regulations governing appointments within federal universities.

The Ministry's review, conducted on June 22, 2026, revealed variances that prompted the order for immediate withdrawal of the appointment. The Ministry has requested documentary proof of compliance and plans to summon the Vice-Chancellor for an urgent meeting in Abuja on June 29, 2026, to discuss broader concerns regarding governance and adherence to due process within the institution.
