Future Cities Summit Promotes Sustainable Urban Development

The Future Cities Summit, held in Lagos, seeks to foster stronger collaboration among government, developers, financiers, and researchers to accelerate sustainable urban development. Danjuma Waniko, representing the Green Build Council Nigeria (GBCN), highlighted the need to bridge fragmented efforts that limit the collective impact of various initiatives.

Despite the belief that little progress has been made in sustainable urban development, evidence suggests otherwise. Various stakeholders, including state governments and private financial institutions, have implemented numerous initiatives aimed at promoting green building and climate-resilient infrastructure.

However, Waniko noted a significant disconnect among these initiatives, which remain scattered and lack visibility. The summit aims to explore practical ways to connect ongoing initiatives within Nigeria's construction ecosystem.

Waniko expressed appreciation for the support from partners and sponsors, including the Global Build Performance Network (GBPN) and the Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's leadership, for their commitment to sustainable urban development.
