Future Olympian Athletics Classic Postponed for Development

The Future Olympian Athletics Classic, originally set for the first quarter of 2026, has been postponed according to a statement from the organizer, signed by Dr. Bruce Ijirigho, a renowned quarter miler and captain of Team Nigeria at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.

The postponement aims to allow the organizing committee to develop a national plan that ensures talent discovery and nurturing across all regions of Nigeria. Dr.

Ijirigho highlighted the importance of not reinventing the wheel but rather restoring a culture that produces champions in Nigerian sports. He pointed out that many youths do not receive opportunities early enough due to a lack of modern coaching techniques and appropriate development strategies.

The Future Olympian Athletics Classic will focus on discovering talent in early teens, including international coaching clinics to transfer skills to master coaches. This decision aims to widen the reach of the competition and provide equal opportunities for youth across the country.
