Vehicle Crash Triggers Gas Explosion in Kubwa, Abuja

On Sunday at approximately 6:15 am, a gas explosion occurred at Liberty Junction in Kubwa, Abuja, when a vehicle crashed into a gas retail outlet. The incident injured the driver and led to a fire that spread to at least nine adjoining shops and a police traffic post.

Eyewitness Ephraim reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing flames from the gas station, prompting residents and traders to flee. Another resident, Nneka Chukwuemeka, noted the rapid spread of the fire, which forced many to abandon their belongings.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Emergency Management Agency, and Nigeria Police, worked for several hours to control the flames and prevent further damage. The driver and a young child were rescued, while the driver was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The explosion also caused significant traffic disruptions in the area, but normalcy began to return as emergency operations concluded.
