Gas-laden tanker fire in Lagos averted with no casualties

In the early hours of Thursday, a gas-laden tanker caught fire along Abaranje Road at Ola Farm Bus Stop in the Ikotun area of Lagos State. Olawale Afolabi, spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that the fire was swiftly contained by emergency responders, with no loss of life or injuries reported.

Preliminary findings indicated that the tanker was traveling at high speed when it struck a road bump, causing the driver to lose control, resulting in a tyre burst and subsequent fire outbreak. LASEMA officials collaborated with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to extinguish the fire and secure the area to prevent the blaze from spreading.

Traffic management was handled by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Police from the Ikotun Division. Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, urged motorists to adhere to speed limits, particularly around speed bumps and residential areas.

Efforts to evacuate the burnt tanker and restore normal traffic flow were ongoing.
