Gas Tanker Fire on Lagos Highway Promptly Controlled

A gas tanker experienced a mechanical fault, leading to a gas leak and subsequent fire on a highway in Lagos while traveling inward Ikorodu. The incident was reported to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), whose General Manager, Olalekan Bakar Oki, coordinated the emergency response.

The LASTMA recovery team, alongside personnel from the Lagos State Fire Rescue Service, quickly mobilized to the scene. They managed to bring the blaze under control within a short time, preventing it from escalating into a major inferno that could have resulted in loss of life and significant property damage.

Their prompt response also helped maintain traffic flow along the busy Ikorodu road corridor. LASTMA officials created an alternate route utilizing service lanes alongside the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor to minimize delays for motorists.

Oki commended the coordinated efforts of the emergency responders and urged motorists to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations during the rescue operations.
