Lagos Fire Service Investigates Apapa Tank Farm Blaze

The Lagos State Fire Rescue Service (LSFRS) has commenced an investigation into a fire outbreak that occurred at the Bono Energy Terminal located in the Coconut area of Apapa, Lagos. The incident was confirmed by LSFRS spokesperson Shakiru Amodu in a brief statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026.

The fire, which erupted around noon, involved a storage tank containing five million liters of automotive gas oil. Emergency responders were mobilized immediately following a distress alert, and the fire was successfully brought under control by 2 PM.

LSFRS General Manager Margaret Adesey noted that the swift response of firefighting teams, in collaboration with neighboring oil and gas facilities, prevented the fire from escalating and ensured complete extinguishment by 1:54 PM. No casualties were reported.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing. Additionally, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that a liquefied petroleum gas tanker developed a mechanical fault earlier that day, prompting emergency response to avert a potential disaster.
