Gas Leakage at Ogun School Hospitalizes 31 Individuals

On April 1, 2026, a gas leakage incident occurred at Ladi Apostol Secondary School in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, shortly after the assembly session. The leakage led to 30 students and one teacher being hospitalized at Ijebu Ode General Hospital, experiencing difficulties in breathing and vomiting.

The Vice Principal, Mr. Adeola Borogun, reported a strong chemical smell detected within the school premises, prompting an emergency response.

The school management called for ambulances to transport the affected individuals to the hospital. The State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, confirmed the incident but dismissed earlier speculation of an explosion, stating that there was no explosion anywhere.

The gas leakage was traced to a laboratory within the school, and further analysis of the gas concentration is expected to determine the exact cause of the incident. All 30 students were reported to be in stable condition after being treated.
