AGILE Trains Kogi School Leaders to Combat GBV

The AGILE initiative is conducting training sessions across Kogi State's three senatorial districts aimed at equipping school leaders with the necessary skills to prevent, identify, document, and respond to cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Sexual Harassment (SEA/SH). Mr. James Peter, the AGILE GBV Focal Person, emphasized the importance of this program in light of ongoing interventions in schools.

He highlighted the need for school authorities and GBV focal persons to be prepared to address threats to the safety and wellbeing of adolescent girls. The training encourages prompt reporting of GBV cases and confidentiality in handling complaints, as stressed by facilitator Barrister Joy.

Participants, including Isa Nasiru and Mrs. Gwatana Agnes, reported that the training improved their understanding of appropriate responses to GBV incidents. A significant aspect of the training was the signing of a code of conduct by school principals and GBV focal persons, committing to principles of safety, confidentiality, and accountability in addressing GBV cases.
