Katsina Women and Youths Trained in Peace Building

A four-day training program aimed at empowering women and youths from four local government areas in Katsina State commenced on Monday. The initiative, funded by the European Union under the Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience Programme, is implemented by the International Organisation for Migration, Mercy Corps, and the Centre for Democracy and Development.

Participants include farmers, herders, women, youth representatives, and persons with disabilities from Safana, Faskari, Sabuwa, and Dandume local government areas, alongside representatives from the Katsina State Ministries of Youth and Sports Development and Women Affairs. Philip Ikita, Senior Programme Manager of Mercy Corps, stated that the training focuses on equipping women with negotiation skills to effectively participate in conflict resolution.

The program aims to enhance communication, trust, and collaboration within communities, particularly in managing disputes over shared resources like land and water. The training also emphasizes sustainable resource management and aims to strengthen community resilience against climate-related conflicts.
