Ogun State Confirms Full Ownership of Gateway Air Aircraft

Emmanuel Ojo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, clarified on Tuesday that Gateway Air's aircraft are fully owned by the Ogun State government. This statement was made in response to claims suggesting the state does not own the airline, which Ojo described as misleading and politically motivated. He emphasized that while the state owns the aircraft, the operational management is outsourced to ValueJet, a decision made to leverage their technical expertise and existing regulatory structures in the aviation sector. Ojo noted that this partnership avoids the complexities of running a full airline operation from scratch and is economically sensible for the state. He further highlighted that ValueJet's prior operations within Ogun State would facilitate smoother commercial operations. Ojo defended the project against criticisms, asserting that it represents a significant achievement for Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration, which aims to enhance the state's aviation capabilities.
