Dave Ryding Retires from Olympics After Final Slalom

Dave Ryding, a renowned British slalom skier, has announced his retirement from Olympic competition at the age of 39, marking the end of a distinguished career that solidified his status as one of Britain's greatest alpine skiers. Ryding's final Olympic appearance took place at the Winter Olympics in Bormio, where he finished 17th in the slalom event.

The first run was particularly challenging, held in torrid conditions with heavy snowfall, where only 46 out of 96 starters completed the course. Despite these difficulties, Ryding improved significantly in his second run, which was conducted under clearer skies and looser snow.

His best Olympic performance remains a 9th place finish in 2018. Reflecting on his career, Ryding expressed pride in his efforts, stating he tried "everything right until the last turn," as reported by BBC Sport.
