Durosinmi Scores on Debut as Genk Falls to Zulte Waregem

Rafiu Durosinmi made a notable competitive debut for Genk in the 2026/27 Belgian Pro League season, scoring the opening goal in the 39th minute during a match against Zulte Waregem on Sunday, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Genk. Coach Jess Thorup praised Durosinmi's performance, particularly noting the quality of Junya Ito's left-footed cross that set up the goal.

Despite Genk's loss, Thorup identified Durosinmi's debut as a positive aspect of the game, showcasing the qualities that led to his recruitment as Genk's record signing. Durosinmi, 23, joined Genk from Pisa on a four-year contract until June 2030, with the transfer fee reported to be €10.5 million.

Prior to his move to Pisa, he had an impressive stint at Viktoria Plzeň, where he scored 35 goals and provided 10 assists in 86 appearances. Genk is hopeful that Durosinmi can continue to build on his promising start and justify their significant investment.
