Ghana Appoints Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars Coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, as announced in a statement released on Monday, April 13. The decision was made by the GFA's executive council and stakeholders, with Queiroz set to begin work immediately in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, 2026. Queiroz, a 73-year-old veteran Portuguese coach, has a rich World Cup pedigree, having previously guided South Africa to qualification in 2002 and led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010. He managed Iran during the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, overseeing a total of 13 matches with a record of three wins, four draws, and six defeats. The GFA highlighted Queiroz's extensive global resume, which includes international roles in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, as a significant asset to strengthen Ghana's team ahead of the tournament. Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, followed by matches against England and Croatia.
