Ghana Football Association Shortlists Tom Saintfiet

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has identified Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet as the top candidate for the vacant head coach position of the Black Stars, following the dismissal of Otto Addo after five consecutive defeats in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The GFA is under pressure to appoint a new coach quickly, as Ghana is scheduled to face Panama in an international friendly on June 18, which will serve as an early test for the new coach once appointed.

Tom Saintfiet is currently the head coach of Mali, where he has built a strong reputation in African football, leading Mali to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He previously guided Gambia to its first-ever Africa Cup of Nations appearance in 2021, reaching the quarter-finals.

Saintfiet's current contract with Mali is set to expire in May and has not been renewed, making him available for the new role. However, financial demands are a factor in negotiations, with reports suggesting he could earn around $20,000 monthly.

The GFA is expected to review several candidates, considering experience, tactical style, and financial requirements before making a final decision.
