Ghana Shuts Premium Passport Centers in Accra, Kumasi

The Ghanaian government has announced the closure of its premium passport application centers located in Accra and Kumasi, effective February 20, 2026. This decision was publicly announced three days later, on February 23.

The closure affects both new and pending applications that were previously processed at these premium facilities, which offered expedited services for a higher fee, particularly catering to business travelers. Applicants who had their biometric data captured will retain their records within the national passport system.

The Ghana Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasized its commitment to efficient service delivery and advised individuals to track their application status through the official passport portal. Those with urgent travel needs are encouraged to contact the passport office's client service unit.

This closure aligns with Ghana's ongoing passport reform program, which aims to decentralize and digitize passport services, including the introduction of a 24-hour expedited process and doorstep delivery services.
