Ghana to Offer Visa-Free Access for All Africans by 2026

Ghana is set to grant visa-free entry to all African nationals, effective May 25, 2026, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This initiative coincides with Africa Day celebrations and builds upon earlier commitments made by former President Nana Akufo-Addo during his final state address in January 2025.

Ghana will become the fifth African nation to implement such a policy, joining Benin, Gambia, Rwanda, and Seychelles. The new visa-free arrangement will coincide with the launch of Ghana's new e-visa system next month, aimed at streamlining entry procedures while maintaining robust border security.

Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized that this policy reinforces Ghana's historical role in promoting pan-Africanism, tourism, and intra-African trade. Additionally, Ghana is negotiating 23 visa waiver agreements to expand travel opportunities for its citizens, enhancing mobility and supporting regional integration efforts under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
