GIFSEP Launches Livelihood Support for 40 Women in Benue

The Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP) has enrolled 40 women in a livelihood support programme designed to enhance their economic independence and strengthen household resilience. This initiative was launched during an orientation at Eyah Hotel and Suites in Makurdi, Benue State, under the Bridging the Gaps in Women’s Health and Well-being (BtG) Project, funded by the Hauwa Ojeifo Global Impact Fund for Women and Girls, with technical support from CBM Global Nigeria.
The programme introduces participants to the Graduation Approach, which aims to help economically vulnerable individuals transition to sustainable livelihoods. Dr. Michael Terungwa David, GIFSEP Executive Director, emphasized that the approach provides resources, skills, and confidence rather than just temporary financial assistance.
Participants will receive conditional cash transfers over six months to stabilize household consumption and support their livelihood activities. Project Manager Dorcas Nicanor outlined participants' roles and rights, emphasizing the importance of commitment and responsible management of the support provided.
