GIFSEP Empowers Women in Benue with Livelihood Support

Women enrolled in a livelihood support programme in Katsina-Ala and Oju Local Government Areas of Benue State have shown appreciation for the initiative, which aims to strengthen their livelihoods and improve household incomes. The programme, part of the Bridging the Gaps in Women’s Health and Well-being (BtG) Project, is implemented by the Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP) and funded by the Hauwa Ojeifo Global Impact Fund for Women and Girls, with technical support from CBM Global Nigeria.
The 50 beneficiaries, 25 from each local government area, participated in orientation sessions that outlined the programme's objectives and implementation process. Project Manager Dorcas Nicanor emphasized the initiative's focus on enhancing the economic resilience of women and girls.
Project Officer Dorcas Iorkusa introduced the Graduation Approach, which helps economically vulnerable individuals develop sustainable livelihoods. Participants will receive support for small businesses, including farming and petty trading.
The sessions also addressed safeguarding and gender-based violence, equipping women with knowledge about their rights and how to seek assistance.
