Senate Urges FG to Intensify Military Action Against Terrorism

The Nigerian Senate has charged the federal government to enhance military operations against bandits and terrorists across the country. This call follows the successful rescue of 39 pupils and seven teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, and held captive for 57 days.

Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidel sponsored the motion, which received support from 108 senators. The Senate commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for mobilizing military and intelligence resources for the rescue operation.

The military's efforts led to the successful recovery of the victims, although two teachers lost their lives during captivity. The Senate emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of children in educational environments and called for the unconditional release of all victims.

Additionally, the Senate urged the government to provide timely payments of statutory benefits to the families of fallen heroes and to continue strengthening the welfare of security personnel.
