Gombe Girl Wins Prestigious Qur’anic Competition in Saudi Arabia

Maryam Ibrahim Dan’azumi, a student at Abubakar Siddiq Community Islamic School for Qur’anic Memorisation in Herwagana Quarters, Gombe, has won the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition held in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Competing in the category for memorization of the entire Holy Qur’an, recitation, Tajweed, and interpretation, she emerged as the overall winner among contestants from various countries.

This edition of the competition was notable as it marked the first participation of females in its 46-year history. Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya congratulated Maryam, her family, and teachers, stating that her achievement reflects discipline, dedication, and commitment to learning.

He emphasized that her success showcases the talent among young people in Gombe State and serves as an inspiration for others, particularly girls, to pursue excellence. The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting educational development, including Qur’anic studies, which he views as essential for nurturing responsible citizenship and character.
