Ndume Urges Military to Rescue Abducted Borno Students

Senator Ali Ndume, a member of the National Assembly representing Borno South, has called on the Nigerian Army to enhance its efforts to secure the release of 78 school children and one teacher abducted by insurgents from Mussa and Lassa in Southern Borno. The abductions occurred in May 2026 and June 2026, with 42 pupils taken from schools in Mussa and 36 students and one teacher abducted from Government Day Secondary School in Lassa.

During a visit to the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin, Ndume met with Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, where he praised the military's ongoing efforts against insurgency. He stressed that his appeal for increased action should not be seen as criticism but as a responsibility to advocate for the affected families.

General Abubakar assured Ndume that the military is committed to ongoing operations to protect communities and ensure the safe return of displaced residents, attributing successes to the support of Lt. General Waidi Shaibu.
