Gombe Governor Approves N148.76m for State University

On Wednesday, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya approved an additional monthly subvention of N148.762 million for Gombe State University, effective from October 2026. This funding aims to facilitate the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tool Allowance (CATA) and address demands from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) following the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, stated that this funding represents a 56 percent increase in the university's monthly subvention, enabling adequate budgetary provisions for the enhanced salary structure. The funds will be included in the 2026 supplementary budget, which the State House of Assembly is expected to consider in September.

Governor Yahaya also directed the university management to begin processes for the payment of outstanding CATA arrears and to explore internal measures for settling other staff obligations, including wage awards and Earned Academic Allowances, in phases to avoid disrupting academic activities.
