Gombe University Approves 65% Salary Increase for Staff

North-Eastern University, formerly known as Pen Resource University, has approved salary increases ranging from 40% to 65% for its staff, as announced in a statement by Public Relations Officer Mukhtar Saulawa. This adjustment is the third significant salary review authorized by the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Founder, Dr Sani Jauro, within three years.

The university had previously raised salaries by up to 35% in October 2023, followed by an additional 20% increase after a successful accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission in October 2024. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yusuph Yahaya described the salary review as a recognition of staff accomplishments and an investment in the university's future.

Dr Jauro expressed his commitment to staff welfare, influenced by his experiences as a university lecturer and the legacy of his late father, Malam Jauro Gombe, a promoter of education in Gombe State. The university achieved full accreditation for all programs presented during the 2024 exercise, scoring 91.4%.
