Google Launches Free AI Training Platform for Africa

Google has introduced a free digital learning platform named Skilling Africa with Google, aimed at providing Nigerians and other Africans access to Artificial Intelligence training without needing a constant internet connection. The initiative targets three million people across Africa by 2030, with an expectation of 250,000 graduates completing courses by the end of 2026.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google's Public Relations Manager for West Africa, announced the development. Alex Okosi, Google's Managing Director for Africa, stated that the platform is designed to overcome barriers posed by poor internet connectivity and high mobile data costs.
Users can download course materials over Wi-Fi for later access. The platform includes over 15 existing Google training programs, such as Hustle Academy and Google Career Certificates.
It also features SCOUT, an AI-powered study companion. Participants earn verifiable badges upon course completion, which can be shared with potential employers.
The platform currently supports English, Swahili, and Arabic, with plans to add more languages.
