Gov. Eno Declares Education Emergency, Boosts Teacher Support
During the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration at Uyo Township Stadium, Gov. Eno declared a total state of emergency in Akwa Ibom's educational system.
He announced a N50,000 wardrobe allowance for each of the 20,000 teachers employed in the state. Additionally, he revealed that the 1,776 registered private schools would receive N500,000 each to support their teachers.
Eno approved the employment of 2,000 new teachers, complementing the 1,000 recently hired, with applications to be submitted through a computer-based test. He highlighted his administration's achievements, including the release of a N15 billion matching grant for the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), interventions in over 100 schools, and the registration of 172,000 students for WASSCE and NECO, with examination fees covered.
Eno appointed Prof Philip Afangha as Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom University of Education and tasked him with obtaining necessary accreditation for the institution.
