Journalists Urged to Combat Misinformation at Symposium

During a media symposium, Dr. Essien Ndueso, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Umo Eno, called on journalists to maintain professionalism and address the rising issue of misinformation.

He expressed concern over the rapid spread of unverifiable reports on social media, which, while facilitating faster information dissemination, often lacks accuracy. Ndueso, who is also the chairman of the board of trustees for the Eket Senatorial District, delivered a lecture emphasizing the importance of ethical standards in journalism.

He noted that citizen journalism plays a significant role in documenting events and drawing global attention, urging journalists to adapt to the digital landscape and utilize fact-checking mechanisms. Ndueso maintained that traditional media is not becoming obsolete but is evolving, and he encouraged collaboration between professional journalists and citizen reporters to enhance the credibility of information shared with the public.
