Governor Bassey Otu Loses Three Officials in Three Years

During the first term of Governor Bassey Otu's administration, three key officials have died. The most recent was Eka Williams Abang, the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, who died in Abuja on a Sunday after reportedly slumping, although the medical circumstances have not been officially disclosed.

Prior to Abang's death, Abubakar Robert Ewa, the Commissioner for Tourism, became the first commissioner to die in Otu's government on January 8, 2025, shortly after attending a State Executive Council meeting. Additionally, Prince Ojoi Ekpenyong Uguana, the Managing Director of the Cross River State Tourism Bureau, passed away in June 2026 but was buried only last week.

The Otu administration has not issued a statement regarding the recent death of Commissioner Abang.
