Sule and Atiku Meet in Saudi Arabia to Discuss 2027 Plans

On March 11, 2026, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar allegedly met at the Conrad Jabal Omar Hotel in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, during the lesser hajj (Umrah). The meeting reportedly lasted two hours and centered on political developments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the aim of unseating President Bola Tinubu.

Sources indicate that Governor Sule expressed support for Atiku's presidential ambitions and pledged to help secure votes in Nasarawa State. Additionally, it is suggested that Sule is seeking political assurances for a potential bid for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat in 2027.

Concerns have been raised within Tinubu's camp regarding the possibility of politicians, particularly from the northern region, switching allegiance to Atiku as an emerging opposition candidate. While Atiku's media aide, Paul Ib, and Sule's chief press secretary, Ibrahim Addra, did not confirm the meeting, they acknowledged Sule's travel to Saudi Arabia during that period.
