Zulum Commits Office and Land for Tax Ombud HQ in Borno

On 15 September 2026, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, pledged to provide an office building and land for the establishment of the North-East Zonal Headquarters of the Office of the Tax Ombud in Maiduguri. This initiative follows the Federal Government's designation of Borno as the headquarters for the zone, aimed at improving taxpayer support and dispute-resolution services for individuals and businesses in the North-East.

Dr. John Nwabueze, the Tax Ombud and Chief Executive, stated that the zonal headquarters would enhance taxpayer services and improve the tax-to-GDP ratio in Borno State and Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of fair treatment for taxpayers and the Office's role in resolving disputes.

In response, Zulum directed the immediate provision of necessary facilities and formed a committee to collaborate with the Tax Ombud on the office's requirements. He also instructed the Director-General of the Borno State Geographic Information Service to identify suitable land for the permanent headquarters.
