Zulum Approves Salary Benefits and Leave Grants for Workers

Borno State Governor Prof Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the immediate implementation of promotion salary benefits and leave grants for civil servants in the state. This decision was made after a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the Government House in Maiduguri on a Monday.

The approval includes payment of promotion salary benefits for state civil servants covering the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 sessions, as well as leave grants for the 2025 session. Additionally, Zulum approved a review of salary arrears for workers in the secondary and tertiary education sectors, with implementation set to begin in September 2026.

A task force, led by Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs Sugun Mai Mele, has been constituted to develop a strategy for implementing the new minimum wage and gratuity scheme for local government workers, with a report due in two weeks. The governor also directed the Directorate of Establishment to prepare a recruitment blueprint for the civil service.
