Borno Governor Zulum Invests N15.29bn in Scholarships

On Wednesday, Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum announced that his administration has invested N15.29 billion in scholarship programs for the state's indigenes since 2023. Of this amount, more than N8.61 billion has been dedicated to overseas studies.

This announcement was made during the homecoming ceremony for 294 beneficiaries of foreign scholarship schemes who studied in universities located in China, India, Egypt, and Malaysia. Governor Zulum detailed that the total allocation of N12.64 billion encompasses foreign scholarships, local scholarships, and administrative support for the program.

He also approved an additional N2.65 billion to fulfill the 2026 foreign scholarship obligations for 158 students studying in the aforementioned countries. The breakdown of the investment includes N8.61 billion for foreign scholarships, N3.83 billion for local scholarships, and N196.3 million for administrative support.

Zulum emphasized that this investment is crucial for developing the capacity of young people, which he believes is vital for overcoming poverty and conflict.
