Obama Advocates for Women in Leadership for Two Years

Former United States President Barack Obama expressed his belief that governments worldwide would perform better if women were in charge for a two-year period. He made these comments during a conversation with historian Doris Kearns Goodwin at Salem State University in Massachusetts.

The event, part of the Salem State Series, attracted approximately 3,600 attendees, with additional viewers at a satellite venue. Obama recalled a thought he had while serving as president, stating, “Even when I was president, I sometimes fantasised about if you put women in charge of every government for like two years and then just kind of saw, all right, how are things going?” He expressed confidence that while things wouldn’t be perfect, they would be better.

Obama had previously shared a similar sentiment in 2019 during a leadership event in Singapore. Additionally, he discussed political divisions in the United States, asserting that the nation is less divided at the grassroots level than portrayed by politics and media.
