Women Urged to Unite for Political Power in Nigeria

Glory Ohagwu Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs, called for Nigerian women to unite to secure political power while inaugurating the state Commissioners of Women Affairs in Jalingo. This event marked the launch of the Power of 10 Million Women Movement, which aims to coordinate efforts across the country.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized that political participation would remain limited unless women mobilized resources and acted collectively. She argued that the movement would counter the notion that women lack the financial capacity to contest elections.

The Minister highlighted that women’s savings groups could create substantial political funds if organized effectively. She also stressed the necessity for women to engage in policy formulation on issues affecting them and children, particularly in the context of national development.

Hajiya Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, the National Deputy Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress, echoed the need for a coordinated movement to enhance women's representation in political leadership, noting their under-representation despite being a significant voter demographic.
