Governor Otu Approves Recruitment of 40 Doctors in Cross River

Governor Bassey Edet Otu has approved the immediate employment of 40 additional medical doctors to address the shortage of medical personnel in Cross River's 17 public hospitals. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Dr.

Henry Egbe Ayuk, in Calabar on Tuesday. The recruitment will consist of 20 Medical Officers, 10 Senior Medical Officers, and 10 Consultant Medical Specialists, with vacancies to be advertised and the recruitment process managed by the Cross River State Civil Service Commission.

Newly recruited doctors will benefit from the 100 per cent Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) recently approved by Governor Otu, aimed at improving the welfare of medical personnel and attracting qualified professionals to the state's health workforce. This initiative is expected to ensure that each public hospital has an average of three to four medical doctors, thereby enhancing the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare services in the state.
