Kano State Government Halts Durbar Events Over Security Risks

The Kano State Government has announced the suspension of all Durbar processions and horse-riding activities within the Kano metropolis until further notice. This decision was made by the State Security Council during an emergency meeting held at the Government House.

The council assessed the security situation surrounding the planned activities and expressed concerns over a large mobilization of supporters, which could lead to confrontations and a breakdown of law and order. Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, stated that the suspension is a precautionary measure to protect lives and property.

The government has instructed all relevant security agencies to enforce this restriction and warned that appropriate lawful actions will be taken against anyone violating the directive. The state government has appealed to residents, traditional institutions, political actors, and stakeholders to remain calm and comply with the directive while assuring that measures are being taken to maintain peace and public order.
