Court Orders IGP, AGF to Justify Adeyemi's Detention

Justice Obiora Egwuatu ruled on Adeyemi's fundamental rights suit, ordering the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to show cause within 72 hours regarding Adeyemi's requests for release, bail, and medical treatment. Adeyemi was arrested in Osun State in July after a federal high court in Abuja issued a bench warrant due to his failure to appear for arraignment.

He faces eight counts of alleged forgery, fraud, and impersonation concerning his claim to lead the PFIPC, an organization disowned by the federal government. Prosecutors allege that Adeyemi forged an appointment letter purportedly from President Bola Tinubu, signed by his chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Adeyemi denies the allegations and asserts the council's legitimacy. The House of Representatives ad hoc committee is investigating the PFIPC, having found no valid establishment documents for the organization.

The court granted Adeyemi access to legal counsel while in custody.
