INEC Rejects AI Evidence in Amupitan Impersonation Probe

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that it will not depend on artificial intelligence-generated analyses or screenshots during its ongoing investigation into allegations of digital impersonation associated with its chairman, Joash Amupitan. Lawrence Bayod, the ICT Director at INEC, disclosed during a Monday interview that the commission is already collaborating with security agencies and external forensic experts to verify the authenticity of the accounts and content involved in the investigation.

INEC insists that credible evidence will guide its conclusions, and it will not base its judgment solely on screenshots or AI-generated findings, which it deems insufficient for official conclusions. Bayod cautioned against the growing threat of digital impersonation and misinformation, warning that reliance on AI tools like Grok could lead to inaccurate outputs.

He emphasized that the commission's chairman does not operate any personal X account and denied any alleged links to partisan political posts.
