Nigeria Expands Army to 12 Divisions for Enhanced Security

President Bola Tinubu's approval for the Nigerian Army's expansion from eight to 12 divisions aims to strengthen internal security and improve operational effectiveness across Nigeria. This restructuring enhances command and control, troop deployment, and military response to security challenges.

The divisions are distributed across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones: the North-East has three divisions, while the North-West, North-Central, South-West, and South-South each have two, and the South-East has one. The existing divisions continue to support military operations.

Notably, the newly established division in Makurdi, Benue State, will oversee military operations in the North-Central region, enhancing security and operational response. Other divisions include those headquartered in Kaduna, Ibadan, Jos, and Port Harcourt, each with specific responsibilities for securing various regions and infrastructure.

The Nigerian Army is in the process of integrating these new divisions into its structure.
