Urgent Call to Fast-Track Non-State Schools Policy in Nigeria

The Coalition of Non-State School Associations, in partnership with SEED Care and Support Foundation, called on state governments to accelerate the implementation of the National Policy on Non-State Schools in Nigeria (NPNSN). During a press conference in Lagos, Olanrewaju Oniyitan, Executive Director of SEED Care and Support Foundation, noted that the NPNSN tracker, launched in July 2025, serves as an accountability tool to monitor policy implementation and identify gaps.

The tracker revealed that no state has fully domesticated the NPNSN one year post-launch. Six states, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Kano, Kaduna, and Jigawa, have reviewed draft frameworks but lack legislative approval.

Osun and Ekiti are still developing their drafts, while Rivers has a framework that aligns with the national policy. The tracker found no evidence of domestication in 27 states, and the Federal Capital Territory is pursuing an administrative approach.

The findings stress the need for stronger political commitment and sustained support from federal and state authorities.
