Nigeria's Coach Eric Chelle Admits Defeat to Guinea-Bissau

In a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier held at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, Nigeria faced a 3-0 defeat against Guinea-Bissau. Coach Eric Chelle admitted that Guinea-Bissau were the better team, with Franculino Djú scoring the first goal in the 15th minute.

Nigeria struggled to respond, leading Chelle to substitute Frank Onyeka and Taiwo Awoniyi for Moses Usor and Moses Simon at halftime. However, the changes did not improve Nigeria's performance, as Mama Baldé scored the second goal in the 66th minute, followed by Álvaro Djaló's third goal in stoppage time.

Chelle noted that the playing conditions, including the pitch and heat, hindered Nigeria's performance. Despite the heavy loss, he remains optimistic about Nigeria's chances in their next qualifiers against Tanzania, emphasizing the need to move forward.

Currently, Guinea-Bissau leads Group L with six points, while Nigeria has three points from two matches.
