Mike Makinde Wins Historic Third Nigeria Cup Title

Mike Makinde made history at the 29th edition of the Nigeria Cup golf tournament held at the Ikoyi Club 1938, becoming the first golfer to win the title three times. He achieved this milestone with an impressive net score of 65, finishing four shots ahead of his closest rival, Anscy Okoebor, while Abiola Johnson secured third place.

Makinde previously won the tournament in 2022 and 2023, but did not win in 2024 and 2025, losing to Tayo Babalakin and Paul Tijani, respectively. After his victory, Makinde expressed gratitude to the organizing committee and emphasized the significance of this win in his golfing career.

In the men's gross category, Akeem Lawal won with a score of 75, followed by Calli Udalor and Peter Eben-Spiff. Adeyosola Ayodele won the ladies’ net category with a score of 71, while Evelyn Oyome claimed the ladies’ gross category.

Mohammed Oybo, Chairman of the 2026 Nigeria Cup Organising Committee, expressed satisfaction with the tournament's success.
