Gully Erosion Threatens Homes in Gombe Community

Residents of Kumo, the headquarters of Akko Local Government Area in Gombe State, have raised concerns about severe gully erosion threatening their homes, farmlands, and roads. The erosion has been expanding, particularly affecting communities such as Zadawa, Jauro Musa, Nasarawo, and Waziri Malle.

Some houses have already been impacted, with many more at risk of collapse without immediate intervention. Bello Barambu, a community development advocate, has appealed to the Gombe State Government, Akko Local Government Council, and relevant federal agencies for urgent action.

He requested the deployment of environmental and engineering experts to assess the damage and recommend solutions, including the construction and rehabilitation of drainage channels. Barambu also urged collaboration from the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief to affected residents.

He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “This is not just a complaint; it is a cry for help.”.
