Gunmen Abduct Principal and Students During NECO Exams

On July 14, 2026, gunmen abducted a principal and four students who were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) exams at a secondary school in Odo Ekina, Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State. The attack occurred at approximately 5:25 PM while the students were engaged in their examinations.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident through a statement issued by ASP Salisu Oyiza, the command's spokesperson. Following the abduction, a combined team of police and security agencies launched a search and rescue operation.

Efforts to locate and rescue the victims are ongoing, with a focus on ensuring their safety and apprehending the perpetrators. Nazir Kankarofi, the Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, visited the scene to assess the situation, and a detailed press release will be issued soon as additional information becomes available.
