Gunmen Attack Mining Site in Plateau, Killing Three

On Tuesday, around 11:50 AM, gunmen attacked a mining site in the Gyel District of Jo South Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to two others. The attack caused significant panic, prompting miners and nearby residents to flee for safety.

The Berom Youth Moulder Association, represented by Rwang Tengwong, condemned the attack, describing it as a sign of worsening insecurity in the Gyel community. This incident is not isolated, as residents of Gyel and the neighboring Bassa Local Government Area have repeatedly raised concerns about violent attacks allegedly carried out by armed groups operating in the area.

The Berom Youth Moulder Association has called on security agencies and the government to dismantle criminal hideouts and take decisive action to end the recurring violence, which they accuse members of the Fulani community of perpetrating. However, the Plateau State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, denied these allegations, labeling them as false.

The Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfr, did not respond to inquiries at the time of reporting.
