NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau Resigns Amid Reform Push

Ibrahim Musa Gusau announced his resignation as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, following directives from President Bola Tinubu for comprehensive reforms in Nigerian football. This decision comes amid criticism over the national teams' performance, including the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons' historic failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Gusau, who was elected NFF president in September 2022 and was set to complete his four-year term in September, stated that his resignation was in the best interest of Nigerian football after consulting with family, friends, and stakeholders. Alongside Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and other Executive Committee members also resigned.

President Tinubu emphasized the need for reforms to address structural weaknesses in Nigerian football, aiming to strengthen governance, administration, and accountability within the sport.
