Heavy Rain Causes Flooding, Death in Edo Community

A heavy downpour in Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area, led to significant flooding that resulted in the death of a lone commercial motorcyclist, identified as Uch. The flood destroyed not fewer than 20 houses and impacted neighboring communities.

Eyewitness accounts reported that the floodwaters swept away Uch, whose body was recovered two days later. The flooding severely affected residential and commercial buildings, particularly along Okp Road near the Igarra police station.

Taiwo Akerel, a former chief of staff to ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki, noted the devastation, which was described as the worst the community has faced in decades. Alabi Oshionogu, the local government chairman, called for support from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assist affected families and manage the situation.

SEMA has been informed and is expected to collaborate with local authorities to address the aftermath of the flooding.
