Housing Minister Inspects FMBN After Fire Incident

On August 4, 2026, Engr. Muttaqa Rabe Darma, PhD, the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, inspected the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) headquarters in Abuja following a fire incident that occurred on August 1, 2026.

The Minister assured that no critical records or customer data were lost, as the fire was contained to a section of the second floor and was likely caused by an electrical fault, with investigations ongoing. He praised FMBN's digital transformation, highlighting the effectiveness of its cloud-based data backup system, which preserved essential records.

Darma stated that the bank remains fully operational and encouraged Nigerians to continue using its services. He reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to expanding access to affordable housing, promising that the 100,000 housing units pledged by the President would be delivered.

Additionally, he mentioned directives for FMBN to enhance its internal processes to improve mortgage delivery.
