FMBN Fire Incident: No Records Lost, Minister Assures

Rabe Darma, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, assured Nigerians that no critical records or customer data were lost in a fire incident at the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) headquarters in Abuja last weekend. During an inspection of the affected area, Darma received briefings on the incident, which was contained to a section of the second floor and is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, with investigations ongoing.

He emphasized accountability for any negligence found in the investigations. The minister praised FMBN's digital transformation, noting that its cloud-based data backup system protected critical records.

He reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to expanding affordable housing, stating that the promise of 100,000 housing units will be fulfilled. Additionally, he mentioned that the government directed FMBN to enhance its internal processes to improve mortgage delivery, aiming for about 2,000 mortgages annually.

FMBN confirmed its operations remain unaffected and that the fire was contained before spreading.
