Allegations of Illegal Kidney Removals in Nigeria

Marshall Abubakar, the lawyer for social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that over 10 young Nigerians may have undergone illegal kidney removal procedures. Abubakar stated that the victims were primarily vulnerable youths approached by agents and taken to medical facilities under false pretenses.

This issue surfaced when a young man presented a medical report indicating that his left kidney was missing. Subsequent medical examinations at two hospitals in Abuja confirmed the absence of the kidney.

The young man reportedly received about $1,300 after the procedure, and measures were allegedly taken to conceal his identity, including changing his name and obtaining an affidavit under a different name. Abubakar claimed this raised concerns about the legitimacy of the procedures.

Investigations suggested that other youths in areas like Masaka, Nyanya, and Mararaba were also targeted, with kidneys allegedly sold for ₦50 million to ₦70 million, while the victims received only a small portion of the proceeds. The claims are under investigation by relevant authorities.
